The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) has appointed Mr Sydney Sparrow as the association’s Acting National President.
The decision was disclosed in a statement issued by the PMAN National Treasurer, Mr Baba Ojonugwa, and made available to journalists in Owerri on Friday.
Ojonugwa explained that Sparrow’s emergence followed the suspension of PMAN’s former President, Mr Pretty Okafor, after the NEC raised concerns over governance and constitutional compliance.
“The decision was reached at an emergency NEC meeting convened on the night of Dec. 25, 2025, to address serious governance and constitutional concerns affecting the association.
“Acting in line with the powers vested in it by the PMAN Constitution, the NEC resolved to suspend the President pending the outcome of a full investigation and disciplinary process,” Ojonugwa said.
According to him, the council’s action was informed by alleged repeated violations of constitutional provisions, abuse of office, disregard for due process, and conduct considered harmful to PMAN’s welfare, credibility and integrity.
He added that the NEC also nullified all unilateral appointments, reinstated the National Treasurer, approved the commencement of a forensic audit of PMAN accounts and joint venture agreements, and resolved to appoint an Acting President in accordance with the constitution.
“In the meantime, Sydney Sparrow, PMAN Governor, FCT, has been nominated as the Acting National President of PMAN National,” he said.
Ojonugwa assured PMAN members across the country that the measures taken were corrective rather than punitive, stressing the NEC’s resolve to uphold transparency, accountability and safeguard the interests of Nigerian musicians.
