The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has named an all-Cameroonian officiating crew for Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 Round of 16 match against Mozambique.
PlatinumPost reports that the knockout fixture involving the Super Eagles and the Mambas is scheduled for Monday at the Complexe Sportif de Fès in Morocco.
The match will be officiated by 29-year-old Abdou Abdel Mefire as centre referee, making him the youngest referee at the ongoing tournament.
Despite his relatively young age, Mefire has demonstrated notable composure and maturity on the continental stage. He recently handled the high-profile group-stage encounter between tournament hosts Morocco and Mali.
His management of crucial moments in that match, including decisions subjected to Video Assistant Referee (VAR) reviews, drew commendation for both calmness and precision.
Elvis Guy Noupue has been appointed first assistant referee. Noupue is a seasoned official with experience at the FIFA World Cup and is regarded as one of Cameroon’s most reliable referees.
The second assistant referee is Carine Atezambong Fomo, a highly respected female official with extensive experience across major CAF competitions.
Fomo has officiated several top-level continental matches, including high-profile finals, and is widely acknowledged for her consistency and professionalism.
With a combination of youthful enthusiasm and extensive experience, the Cameroonian officiating team is expected to maintain discipline and fairness in what is anticipated to be a tense AFCON 2025 knockout encounter.
The appointment reflects CAF’s confidence in Cameroon’s refereeing pedigree for a decisive stage of the tournament.
