The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused Gov. Siminalayi Fubara of betraying both the party and the people of the state by abandoning the PDP during the ongoing political crisis.

Dr. Nname Ewor, a factional Caretaker Chairman of the party, made the allegation on Thursday at a news conference in Port Harcourt.

Recall that the rift between Fubara and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly erupted less than a year after he assumed office, eventually plunging the state into a deep political crisis.

According to Ewor, President Bola Tinubu intervened in the dispute, noting that part of the agreement reached was that Fubara would not seek re-election for another term.

He said the governor was also required to reinstate Chief Ohna Awuse as Chairman of the Rivers Traditional Rulers Council.

Ewor further stated that the agreement included the removal of Tammy Danagogo as Secretary to the State Government and Edison Ehie as Chief of Staff.

He alleged that Fubara failed to honour all the terms of the agreement, a development he said led to the collapse of the peace process and the subsequent declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers by Tinubu.

The PDP chieftain added that Fubara later entered into another agreement with Tinubu shortly before the emergency rule was lifted, which he said culminated in the governor’s defection from the PDP to the ruling All Progressive Party (APC).

Ewor claimed that following his defection, Fubara began boasting that Tinubu would compel members of the State House of Assembly to pass the 2026 budget.

He also alleged that the governor claimed Tinubu would force the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to support his second-term re-election bid.
Ewor called on Fubara to publicly disclose the terms of the agreement reached with Tinubu prior to the lifting of the emergency rule in the state.

“The mandate Fubara is holding was given to him by Rivers people, and all his actions and inactions affects all those whose mandate he is holding.

“Therefore, it is incumbent on him at this material time, to disclose to Rivers people the terms of the peace agreement he entered with Tinubu before the emergency rule was lifted.

“This will enable rivers people to make informed decisions,” he said.

Ewor recalled that the PDP had approached the Supreme Court to challenge the declaration of the State of Emergency in a bid to protect its mandate.

“Today, Fubara has taken our mandate to the APC, which with all intent and purpose, is unjust,” he said.

He further accused the governor of misleading party members into attending the PDP Convention in Ibadan, only for him to stay away from the event, an issue he said is now before the court.

Ewor also disclosed that Fubara had fully aligned himself with Wike’s calls for the re-election of Tinubu in 2027.
