The bodies of a Kaduna-based woman, Loveth Alegbe, and an interstate commercial driver, Nweke Chukwuma, have been recovered from a forest in Kogi State, despite reports that their families paid a ₦3.5million ransom for their release.
Sources said on Friday that both victims were abducted on January 6, 2026, in separate incidents but were held by the same criminal gang believed to be operating across parts of Kogi State.
Their remains were later discovered in the Abocho area of Dekina Local Government Area, within a dense forest corridor notorious for recurring kidnapping activities.
Relatives said Loveth Alegbe, a young woman from Kaduna State, was seized by gunmen in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State while she was travelling.
In a related incident, Chukwuma, an inter-state driver transporting passengers from Abuja to eastern Nigeria, was intercepted along his route and taken hostage by the same group.
Family sources disclosed that the abductors contacted them and demanded a ₦3.5million ransom for the release of the two captives.
Following prolonged negotiations and fundraising efforts, the families reportedly paid the entire amount in the hope that the victims would be freed.
However, shortly after the payment was made, the kidnappers allegedly cut off communication, declining to respond to calls or provide information about the whereabouts of the victims.
Concerned by the sudden silence, relatives and local contacts launched a search, which ultimately resulted in the grim discovery of the bodies.
Security operatives were subsequently notified, and the Nigeria Police reportedly assisted in evacuating the remains from the forest.
Chukwuma’s body was later taken to Enugu State by his family for burial preparations, while Loveth’s remains were returned to Kaduna State for final rites.
