More than 10 persons are feared dead following a fatal road accident involving an 18-seater bus conveying passengers to the burial of Bayelsa State’s late Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.
The accident occurred along the Toru-Orua axis of the Sagbama–Ekeremor Road, a major route in the area, according to initial reports from the scene.
Several other passengers sustained injuries in the crash and were rushed to nearby hospitals for emergency medical attention.
The victims were travelling to attend the burial of Senator Ewhrudjakpo, who died suddenly on December 11, 2025, at the age of 60 after collapsing in his office at the Government House in Yenagoa.
The burial is scheduled to hold today, January 30, 2026, in his hometown of Ofoni in Sagbama Local Government Area. The funeral activities have included a Day of Tributes attended by prominent personalities such as former President Goodluck Jonathan, Governor Douye Diri, and former Governor Seriake Dickson.
