The North East Women for Peace has praised the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, for rolling out a welfare-driven initiative designed to enhance the economic wellbeing of families of serving military personnel.
According to the group, the CDS deserves commendation for securing the approval and backing of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, through the Defence Headquarters, to partner financial institutions in offering soft loan facilities to spouses of service members at significantly reduced interest rates.
In a statement released on Thursday and signed by its President, Saratu Gambo, the group described the move as both timely and strategic, stressing that it underscores the commitment of the military high command to the welfare of service families.
The statement explained that the proposed loan scheme would allow spouses of military personnel to access affordable credit, thereby promoting economic empowerment, easing financial pressure, and strengthening household stability.
It further noted that improved welfare for military families would translate into enhanced morale, better focus, and increased operational effectiveness of troops deployed in different theatres of operation across the country.
“The sacrifices made by officers and men of the Armed Forces are enormous, and initiatives such as this go a long way in boosting their morale and dedication to national service,”the statement said.
The North East Women for Peace added that the programme shows a clear understanding that national security goes beyond the battlefield and includes sustained investment in the welfare of those who support troops from the home front.
The group also commended the President and Commander-in-Chief for his continued support for policies and programmes targeted at improving the lives of members of the Armed Forces and their families.
It expressed confidence that effective implementation of the soft loan initiative would establish a new standard for military welfare interventions and further reinforce the confidence, loyalty, and fighting spirit of troops defending the nation.
