Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has announced his resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), bringing an end to his membership of the party that sponsored his emergence as governor.

The decision was conveyed in a resignation letter dated 29 December 2025 and addressed to the Ward Chairman of the PDP in Ampang West Ward, Mangu Local Government Area. In the letter, the governor stated that his withdrawal from the party takes immediate effect.

“I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the PDP with immediate effect,” the governor stated.

Mutfwang expressed gratitude to the PDP and its leadership across all levels for the opportunity and support he received during his time in the party, acknowledging its role in his political career.

“I sincerely appreciate the PDP for providing me the political platform to participate in the democratic process. I acknowledge the support of party leaders, members, and supporters at all levels during my time in the party, and I remain grateful for the trust in me,” he said.

Explaining the basis for his decision, the governor cited what he described as the “realities of the moment,” noting that his choice was guided by a desire to remain focused on governance and public service.

“Given the realities of the moment and guided by my commitment to purposeful leadership, clarity of direction, and service delivery, I am compelled to seek an alternative political platform,” the letter read.

The resignation letter was officially acknowledged on 30 December 2025 by Mr. Dasjak Sunday, the Ward Chairman of Ampang West Ward, confirming the governor’s formal exit from the PDP.

Mutfwang concluded his letter with a message of respect to the party leadership, stating, “Please accept the assurances of my highest regards.”

As of the time of filing this report, the governor has not disclosed the political party he intends to join next.
