The Kano State Police Command has recovered suspected explosive materials and illicit drugs during two separate operations carried out across parts of metropolitan Local Government Areas in the state.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday in Kano by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa.

According to Kiyawa, on Monday, police officers attached to the Rijiyar Lemo Police Division, acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, executed a search warrant at a residence located in Tudun Bojuwa Quarters, Fagge LGA. During the operation, two large sacks containing suspected incriminating items were recovered.

He said a team of experts from the command’s Explosive Ordinance Disposal, Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) unit carried out recognition and identification of the recovered materials.

Kiyawa explained that one of the sacks contained six rolls of detonating codes, while the second sack held 20 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa, as well as 220 sachets of suspected Exol tablets. He added that investigations into the recovery were ongoing.

In the second operation, Kiyawa said police officers attached to the Anti-Thuggery Unit, while conducting an intelligence-led surveillance patrol, intercepted a commercial tricycle rider at Sani Mainagge Quarters in Gwale LGA. The rider was found in possession of three bags containing suspected heavy materials.

He said the EOD-CBRN experts were again deployed to examine the items, during which 3,700 pieces of electric detonators were discovered.

The tricycle rider subsequently led the police to the arrest of a suspect identified as Ibrahim Garba, also known as ‘Manyan Baki’, aged 49, from Zamfara State. Kiyawa said the suspect confessed to facilitating the transportation of the materials from Nasarawa State to other destinations.

Kiyawa stated that the command had already launched an intensive investigation into the incidents.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, commended the officers involved in the successful operations and urged members of the public to remain vigilant.

He called on residents to continue reporting suspicious movements, items or activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency numbers: 0803241975408123821575, and 09029292926.

Kiyawa added, “The public is advised not to touch any suspicious item seen, keep distance, and immediately report it to the Police.”
