President Bola Tinubu on Sunday met with Rwandan President Paul Kagame for a private lunch in Paris, France, where both leaders exchanged views on global developments and strategies for advancing Africa amid shifting international realities.

The meeting, which took place on January 4, 2026, focused on Africa’s future in the face of emerging global challenges.

Sharing details of the engagement on X, President Tinubu said discussions centred on positioning the continent for growth in an increasingly dynamic world.

“This afternoon, I had a private lunch with H. E. President Paul Kagame of Rwanda to discuss the current state of world affairs and advancing Africa in an ever-changing global landscape,” Tinubu’s post read.

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President was expected to continue his end-of-year break in Europe ahead of an official engagement in the Middle East.

Onanuga said Tinubu would later travel to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, at the invitation of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to attend the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW 2026) Summit.

“His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, has invited President Tinubu to participate in the 2026 edition of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW 2026) Summit, which will take place in the emirate early in January.”

The week-long summit brings together leaders from government, business and civil society to shape future approaches to sustainable development.

With the theme, “The Nexus of Next: All Systems Go,” ADSW aims to bridge ambition and action across innovation, finance and human capital, highlighting pathways for global progress.

The Presidency said President Tinubu would return to Nigeria after the conclusion of the summit.
