Troops of the 8 Division Garrison Strike Force under Operation FANSAN YAMMA Sector 2 have neutralised six terrorists and rescued a kidnapped underage girl during a fierce military offensive in Sububu Forest, Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The operation, aimed at dismantling terrorist enclaves and restoring peace in the troubled state, also led to the recovery of arms and ammunition and the destruction of several terrorist camps and logistics structures.

According to a statement issued by the Nigerian Army on Sunday, the offensive began at Indulumu village, where troops engaged the terrorists in a gun battle and killed two of them.

The Army said “one AK-47 rifle was recovered” during the encounter, dealing a blow to the group’s fighting capability.

The troops later advanced to Ruduno village, where they encountered further resistance and killed four more terrorists after an intense firefight.

In the operation, the military recovered “another AK-47 rifle, a magazine loaded with 28 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition,” while two motorcycles used by the terrorists for mobility and logistics were destroyed, the statement added.

Beyond the battlefield gains, the troops also recorded a major humanitarian success with the rescue of a kidnapped underage victim, identified as Halira Ibrahim, during a sweep of the forest.

The Army described the rescue as “a clear demonstration of the troops’ unwavering commitment to protecting vulnerable citizens and combating the scourge of kidnapping” in the North-West.

The operation further led to the destruction of multiple terrorist camps and life-support structures in Magaji, Galakaje, Filinga and Kukatara, significantly disrupting the terrorists’ ability to regroup and sustain operations.

The statement, signed by Captain David Adewusi, Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, said the sustained offensive has denied the terrorists safe havens and weakened their operational capacity across the area.
