Nigerian socialite Okechukwu Pascal, popularly known as Cubana Chiefpriest, has explained why he is backing President Bola Tinubu despite the continued incarceration of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Chiefpriest stated that he does not have the capacity to influence Kanu’s release unless he operates within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He made the clarification while responding to social media commentator VeryDarkMan (VDM), who criticised him for aligning with a pro-Tinubu support group ahead of the 2027 elections.
VDM had shared a video showing members of Tinubu’s support group, including Chiefpriest, during a visit to Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, accusing the socialite of hypocrisy. He referenced a November 2025 post in which Chiefpriest warned that the APC would struggle to secure votes in the South-East if Kanu remained in detention.
Questioning the contradiction, VDM alleged that Chiefpriest and other South-East political figures had abandoned calls for Kanu’s release in favour of personal political interests.
In his response on Instagram, Chiefpriest maintained that he has always been a member of the APC and reiterated that he could not advocate for Kanu’s release from the opposition. He added that Governor Uzodinma had strongly supported his political growth within the party and would serve as Director-General of the Renewed Hope campaign for Tinubu’s re-election.
Chiefpriest further disclosed plans to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives under the APC, noting that while he worked for Peter Obi during the last election as a special adviser to Governor Uzodinma, he is now fully aligned with Tinubu’s political camp.
