Former Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney has claimed that Arsenal do not possess any truly world-class players in their squad.

Despite that assessment, Rooney still backs the Gunners to lift the Premier League trophy this season.

Arsenal, managed by Mikel Arteta, are currently four points clear of Manchester City with 12 matches remaining.

Rooney, however, believes the North London side are well placed to secure their first league title in 22 years.

Speaking on The Overlap, he said: “Arsenal don’t have a standout world-class player or a superstar they depend on entirely. But what they have shown is the ability to grind out wins.

“Manchester City are still in contention — there’s a third of the season to go, so anything can happen. But I’m backing Arsenal to win the league.”
