The West African Director for Peace and Conflict Resolution in the International Human Rights Protection Service USA, Hon. Jim Okolo has led a high-powered delegation on a courtesy visit to the National Coordinator of the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), Office of the National Security Adviser, Maj. Gen. Adamu Garba Laka.
The meeting in Abuja was aimed at developing possible ways of intelligence sharing mechanisms between both organizations.
This comes few days after Hon. Okolo, also the National Coordinator of Nouvelle Perspective, was formally inducted as an implementation partner for the Nigeria Air Force (NAF) Directorate of Peace Support Operations. The Directorate was established to create a robust framework for pledging capabilities to the UN Capacities Readiness System, planning, managing, and implementing PSO activities and deployments. It is aimed at enabling the NAF to effectively project airpower beyond the nation’s shores.
During the engagement, discussions reportedly focused on strengthening collaboration in early warning systems, conflict prevention strategies, and capacity building in counter-terrorism efforts.
Both parties emphasized the importance of multi-stakeholder cooperation in addressing emerging security threats within Nigeria and the wider West African sub-region.
Hon. Okolo commended the efforts of the Office of the National Security Adviser in coordinating intelligence-driven operations and promoting inter-agency synergy, noting that civil and international organizations have a critical role to play in supporting national security architecture through advocacy, research, and structured information exchange.
Speaking on the purpose of the visit, Okolo said, “The aim of this visit is to build a bridge of cooperation that allows responsible intelligence sharing, knowledge exchange, and preventive strategies that can strengthen peace and security. Terrorism and violent extremism are evolving challenges, and no single institution can address them alone. We believe that collaboration between state institutions and credible international partners is essential to protecting lives and sustaining stability in our region.”
Maj. Gen. Laka welcomed the delegation and reiterated the Centre’s openness to partnerships that align with Nigeria’s national security objectives. He stressed the need for coordinated approaches that combine operational intelligence with community-based peacebuilding initiatives.
