United States’ President, Donald Trump, said Friday that he is considering Republican Senator Ted Cruz for a future vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court, despite Cruz stating last month that he was not interested in the position.

Speaking at a rally in Corpus Christi, Trump introduced the Texas lawmaker and praised him as “an amazing guy.”

The president joked that Cruz would secure overwhelming bipartisan backing in Congress if nominated, quipping that lawmakers in both parties might welcome the move as a way to remove him from the Senate.

“He’s the only guy I know, he’ll get 100% of the Democrat vote, 100% of the Republican vote. They want to get him out of there. He is such a pain in the ass, but he’s so good and so talented.”

Cruz, who currently chairs the Senate Commerce Committee, attended a committee hearing on broadcast media ownership rules on Capitol Hill earlier this month.
