Three former governors of Abia State on Saturday inaugurated a technical committee mandated to work toward ensuring a sweeping victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 General Elections.

The committee, made up of former lawmakers and political appointees who served in the administrations of Orji Uzor Kalu, Theodore Orji, and Okezie Ikpeazu, was inaugurated in Umuahia.

While inaugurating the committee on behalf of the former governors, Kalu, who currently represents Abia North in the Senate, revealed that the body was constituted in January and assigned the task of developing a strategic blueprint for both the party and the state.

He also disclosed that arrangements were underway for a strategic session involving the committee and the former governors to harmonise plans ahead of the elections.

“It’s a technical committee to work on modalities on how we are going to set up larger committees that will work for the victory of our party.

“We are showing people our commitment for our party to win from the President to the House of Assembly,” Kalu said.

PlatinumPost reports that the committee is chaired by Dr ACB Agbazuere, the former Chief of Staff to Ikpeazu.

Membership of the committee cuts across individuals who served in various capacities under previous administrations in the state between 1999 and 2023.

Meanwhile, Kalu’s younger brother, Mascot Kalu, reiterated his intention to contest the Abia governorship election in 2027 on the platform of the APC.

Speaking during the event, he called on members of the committee to demonstrate strong dedication toward ensuring the party’s success in the 2027 polls.

He assured that, if given the opportunity to lead the state, he would harness and develop the abundant human and material resources in Abia.

PlatinumPost reports that Alex Otti of the Labour Party is seeking a second term as governor of the state.
