Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has revealed her picks for the greatest Afrobeats artistes of all time, often referred to as the “Afrobeats Big 3.”
In a recent interview on Hot 97, the singer named Tiwa Savage, Wizkid, and Rema as her top three Afrobeats stars.
Her selection notably left out Davido and Burna Boy, who are frequently mentioned alongside Wizkid as part of the widely recognized Afrobeats Big 3.
“My Afrobeats Big 3 would be Tiwa Savage, Wizkid and Rema. My solid Big 3,” she said.
Meanwhile, Ayra Starr also explained why she decided to relocate from Nigeria to New York City, noting that the presence of friends and the city’s cultural appeal played a role in her decision.
“I spent the last two summers in New York, and last summer I stayed in Hell’s Kitchen for about three months with my friends. We spent time watching American shows and movies. It was fun.
“Growing up, I had always wanted to visit America. When I thought about which city to choose, Los Angeles felt too far, with a nine-hour time difference from Nigeria. So, I chose New York,” she explained in an interview with Angela Yee.
