Boko Haram claims responsibility for deadly Ngoshe attack, vows to turn Borno town into caliphate

 

Boko Haram terrorists have claimed responsibility for the recent assault on a military facility in Ngoshe, located in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, declaring their intention to convert the community into a caliphate and hold Eid-el-Fitr prayers at the town’s central mosque, which they say they now control.

It was earlier reported that the insurgents stormed the town on Wednesday night shortly after Muslims had broken their fast, killing both soldiers and civilians while abducting hundreds of residents.

Sources disclosed that those killed during the attack included the chief Imam and several elders of the community. Several homes were also destroyed, while the military base and some equipment were set ablaze.

In a video circulating on social media and reviewed by Daily Trust on Friday, five young men identifying themselves as members of Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad under the leadership of Imam Ubu Umaima claimed responsibility for the operation.

The group’s leader, who spoke in Hausa, alleged that soldiers were beheaded during the attack and declared that the town would be renamed Daular Islam (Caliphate).

“In the name of Allah, the most beneficial, and the most merciful. We thank God Almighty for helping us to succeed in our mission in Ngoshe. And as you can see today, 16/9/1447 (Thursday 6th March, 2026) we are inside the central mosque in Ngoshe.

“People in this town are saying that we cannot conquer Ngoshe. With the help of God, we have already conquered the town and by the grace of God, we are going to stay in Ngoshe and change its name to a caliphate. And at the end of Ramadan, we will observe the Eid-el-Fitr prayer inside Ngoshe.

“We have slaughtered them, abducted their women and children and enslaved them. They are our legal property to use as ordained by God.

“We have conquered Ngoshe and will remain here, we are willing to die for this course. It’s our third day in this town and we will extend the fight and reclaim more places from here to Maiduguri, up to Abuja,” he said.
