Residents of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, were thrown into panic on Monday night after three separate explosions were reported in different parts of the city, leaving several people feared injured.
The blasts occurred at the busy Monday Market area, the Post Office Area, and near the gate of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH).
Eyewitnesses said the explosions happened almost simultaneously, causing widespread panic among residents and traders in the affected areas. People were seen running for safety as emergency responders and security personnel rushed to the scenes.
Although the exact cause of the explosions had not been officially confirmed at the time of filing this report, sources said several casualties had been recorded, with victims being evacuated for treatment.
Security agencies were said to have cordoned off the affected areas while rescue efforts were ongoing. Residents have been advised to avoid crowded places within and around Maiduguri as authorities work to assess the situation and restore calm.
Officials are yet to release an official casualty figure, but emergency teams were still working through the night to account for the injured and ensure the safety of residents.
Further updates are expected as more information becomes available.
