The Kano State Government has dismissed as false the rumours circulating in some media outlets and on social media claiming that the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, will lead the forthcoming Sallah Durbar.
The government stated that the report is unfounded and that no official decision has been made regarding the matter.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, on Monday.
It further emphasized that the Kano emirship issue is currently before the court, and therefore, it is important to allow the judiciary to carry out its responsibilities without undue pressure or confusion caused by speculation.
At present, the state government reiterated that it remains neutral and has distanced itself from both sides of the emirship dispute until the court delivers a final judgment that is duly recognized by law.
The Kano State Government also called on the public to remain law-abiding, avoid spreading rumours, and ensure that they obtain information only from credible and official sources.
Furthermore, the government urged media organizations and social media users to verify the authenticity of any information before dissemination in order to avoid creating confusion or tension within the community, particularly as the Sallah celebrations approach.
The state government reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace, unity, and stability across Kano State.
