A frontline aspirant for the Senate Presidency of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Chinyelu Chinelo Okolie, has formally declared her intention to contest for the influential student leadership position, pledging what she described as “transformative leadership” aimed at restoring the strength and relevance of the NANS Senate.

Okolie made her declaration during a recent strategic engagement with key stakeholders of the association in Abia State, where she outlined an ambitious vision to reposition the Senate as “the true legislative voice of Nigerian students.”

Describing her decision as both a personal milestone and a call to service, the aspirant stated, “A milestone unfolds in my service to Nigerian students, setting the stage for transformative leadership.” She emphasized that her ambition goes beyond personal aspiration, framing it instead as a response to the urgent need for institutional renewal within the student body.Okolie Declares For NANS Senate Presidency, Vows To Rebuild Student Parliament

“This declaration is not just about ambition, it is about responsibility,” Okolie said. “It is about the need to rebuild the strength, dignity, and influence of the NANS Senate as the true legislative voice of Nigerian students.”

At the core of her campaign is a reform agenda centered on institutional independence, unity, and proactive engagement. According to her, the Senate must evolve into a more responsive and effective body capable of addressing the complex challenges confronting students nationwide.

“I shared my vision for a Senate that is independent, united, and proactive in addressing the challenges facing students across the country,” she said. “There is a need for stronger legislative capacity, effective representation, and meaningful collaboration with government and private sector stakeholders.”

Okolie further revealed that her declaration received strong backing from stakeholders present at the meeting, noting that their endorsement has reinforced her commitment to the race.

“I am deeply encouraged by the overwhelming support, insights, and confidence expressed by stakeholders present. Their belief in this vision strengthens my resolve to serve with integrity, inclusiveness, and purpose,” she added.

Positioning her candidacy as part of a broader movement to amplify student voices, the aspirant stressed the importance of advocacy and representation within national discourse.

“This journey is about making sure Nigerian students’ voices are heard, protected, and amplified,” she stated.

In a rallying call to supporters, Okolie underscored her collective vision for rebuilding the institution, declaring: “Together, we will rebuild the Senate. Together, we will strengthen NANS. Together, we will shape a better future for Nigerian students.”

She concluded her declaration with the historic student movement slogan, “Aluta Continua, Victoria Ascerta,” and a note of personal conviction, citing Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

With her entry into the race, attention is expected to shift toward the evolving dynamics within the National Association of Nigerian Students Senate, as stakeholders and student constituencies weigh competing visions for the future of student representation in Nigeria.
