Suspected political thugs have set ablaze the secretariat of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ubima Community, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The attack occurred on Thursday night, shortly before the visit of the former Governor of Rivers State and Immediate past Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Ameachi.

Ameachi has already arrived at the Port Harcourt International Airport and is heading to Ubima, his hometown, to validate his party’s registration.

The assailants were also reported to have invaded the minister’s community with heavy gunfire, shooting sporadically across the area.

Amaechi is one of the leaders of the coalition ADC working to wrestle power from President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Sources said the political thugs stormed the community, fired heavily and set the party secretariat on fire.

It was further learnt that the attackers returned on Friday morning and erected a roadblock along the Omuawa-Ubima Road, where they reportedly stopped buses carrying ADC banners from entering Ubima.

Residents told newsmen that calm was later restored after security operatives deployed to the area chased the thugs away.

Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer in Rivers State, CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, were unsuccessful as she did not respond to calls and text messages seeking confirmation of the incident.
