The naira strengthened marginally against the United States dollar at the official foreign exchange market on Friday, closing the week at N1,346.49 to the dollar.

Figures published on the official website of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) showed that the local currency appreciated by N1.13, or 0.08 per cent, compared with the N1,347.62-to-dollar rate recorded on Thursday.

The latest gain capped a relatively stable week for the naira, which recorded only one session of depreciation amid the ongoing reforms by the apex bank.

At the beginning of the week on Monday, the currency appreciated to N1,349.53 per dollar. It extended the positive trend on Tuesday before recording a marginal 0.5 per cent decline on Wednesday.

The naira subsequently regained ground on Thursday, appreciating by N2.79, before recording another modest gain at the close of trading on Friday.

The performance means the domestic currency ended the week on a positive note, despite fluctuations recorded during the five trading sessions.
