A New Chapter of Grassroots Mobilisation, Unity and People-Driven Leadership Begins in Rivers State

The Obi-Kwankwaso (OK) Movement has officially inaugurated its Rivers State chapter in a colourful and historic gathering that brought together movement leaders, newly inaugurated executives, political candidates, grassroots mobilisers, supporters and stakeholders from across the state.

The inauguration marked another significant step in the Movement’s growing national structure and its determination to build a strong, organised and people-centred political movement ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Despite a heavy downpour of rain, the enthusiasm and commitment of Rivers State supporters remained undiminished. The gathering recorded an impressive turnout, with the available canopies outside overflowing with supporters while the gallery upstairs was also filled with participants who came from different parts of the state.

The atmosphere demonstrated what the OK Movement considers one of its greatest strengths: grassroots participation driven by ordinary Nigerians who are demanding a stronger voice in the political process.

National Leadership in Attendance

The inauguration was graced by key leaders of the OK Movement who travelled to Rivers State to formally witness and support the establishment of the state structure.

Among those present was the Director General of the OK Movement, Hon. John Ughulu, whose presence further underscored the importance the Movement places on building functional structures across every state of the federation.

Also present was the National Director for Mobilisation and Outreach, Rev. Victor Ekam, who joined other leaders in emphasising the need for sustained grassroots engagement, community outreach and political education ahead of the 2027 elections.

The Zonal Coordinator for the South-South, Amb. Christopher Igharo, was equally present and officially inaugurated the executives representing the various Local Government Areas and Wards across Rivers State.

The inauguration of the LGA and Ward executives represents an important organisational milestone for the Movement as it moves from broad political advocacy to deeper grassroots structures capable of engaging directly with communities.

A Movement Built Beyond Political Rallies

The Rivers State inauguration was not simply a gathering of political supporters. It was a demonstration of the Movement's expanding organisational structure and its ambition to establish a presence at the grassroots level.

Representatives and executives from Local Government Areas and Wards across the state were formally brought into the structure, creating a foundation for sustained mobilisation and communication between the Movement's leadership and the people.

The OK Movement maintains that meaningful political change cannot be achieved solely through social media campaigns, political rallies or election-period activities.

Instead, the Movement is focused on building a structure that reaches communities, engages citizens, listens to their concerns and encourages them to participate actively in the democratic process.

The newly inaugurated executives were therefore encouraged to take the message of the Movement into their respective communities and continue building relationships with the people at the ward and LGA levels.

Political Candidates Join the Movement's Growing Network

The event also attracted Senate candidates, House of Representatives candidates and other political candidates, who were present and expressed their willingness to work with the OK Movement in Rivers State.

Their participation added further political weight to the inauguration and reflected the growing interest in the Movement's agenda across different levels of political representation.

The presence of candidates and political stakeholders also provided an opportunity for the Movement to reiterate the importance of cooperation, coordination and a shared commitment to grassroots engagement.

The focus is on creating an informed and active electorate capable of making independent political choices based on leadership, competence, accountability and the future of Nigeria.

The Movement continues to express its aspiration for Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso to emerge victorious in the 2027 presidential election, while encouraging supporters to engage Nigerians through peaceful, lawful and democratic means.

The message from the Rivers State inauguration was clear: the 2027 project cannot be left to political elites alone. It must involve citizens at the grassroots.

Rain Could Not Stop the People

Rather than dispersing because of the weather, supporters remained present, filling the available spaces both inside and outside the venue.

The overflow of participants into the outdoor canopies and the upstairs gallery demonstrated the level of interest and commitment surrounding the Movement in Rivers State.

Rivers State Joins the National OK Movement Structure
