The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, has declared that President Bola Tinubu has performed better than every democratically elected Nigerian president during their respective first terms in office.

Morka made the claim during an interview with Channels Television on Monday, while defending the performance of the Tinubu administration.

According to him, Tinubu inherited an economy that was already in serious difficulty after years of what he described as poor governance by successive administrations.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has outperformed any president in his first term. He has outperformed any democratically elected president in this country in their terms,” Morka said.

Asked to provide specific indicators to support the claim, the APC spokesman maintained that the available economic indicators were sufficient evidence of the administration’s performance.

“The indicators are res ipsa loquitur, as we say in law; they speak for themselves. This president inherited an economy that was completely in a mess,” he said.

Morka also defended the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing his eight-year tenure as a period that prevented Nigeria from sliding further into crisis after what he called 16 years of “horrific maladministration” under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“Buhari was a stopgap president that really came to keep the country from tipping over the precipice — from 16 years of horrific maladministration of the PDP government,” he said.

“President Buhari served his term, did his job to hold the country still for President Tinubu to enter.”

The APC spokesman further argued that Tinubu’s economic policies had significantly altered the country’s macroeconomic outlook, claiming that even some of the administration’s critics were beginning to acknowledge its achievements.

He said Nigeria had “come out of the woods” at the macroeconomic level as a result of policies implemented by the Tinubu administration.

However, Morka did not provide specific comparative data showing how Tinubu had outperformed previous presidents, despite being asked about the indicators supporting his assertion.

Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023, succeeding Buhari, whose administration governed Nigeria from 2015 to 2023. Both administrations were elected under the platform of the APC.
