The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has ordered the immediate dissolution of all ad hoc committees of the Green Chamber.

The decision was conveyed in a circular issued on Saturday by the Clerk of the House, Sidi Ibrahim, who said the committees had exceeded the period originally allotted for the completion of their assignments and submission of reports.

According to the circular, the Speaker’s directive took effect from Friday, August 28, 2026.

The Clerk said the affected committees had previously been instructed to conclude their investigations and other assignments and submit their reports in line with the House’s established rules and procedures.

He disclosed that only two of the committees had formally requested and received extensions under Order 18, Rule 5 of the House Standing Orders. However, the two-week extensions granted to the committees had also expired.

Ibrahim further referred to Order 18, Rule 11, Paragraph 5 of the Standing Orders, which stipulates the timeframe within which committees are expected to complete their work and submit reports.

With the expiration of the approved timelines, the Clerk said there was no longer justification for retaining the affected ad hoc committees.

The chairmen of the dissolved committees were consequently directed to submit all pending reports, working papers, records and other materials connected to their assignments to the Office of the Clerk for safekeeping.

Members of the committees were also instructed to comply fully with the directive.

The development comes shortly after an ad hoc committee investigating the establishment of the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council submitted its preliminary report, which exonerated the Chief of Staff to the President.
