ABUJA — A Nigerian lady based in Abuja, identified by her Instagram handle @iamsimplynneka, has sparked a heated online debate after she publicly rejected the popular saying that “what a man can do, a woman can do better.”
In a viral Instagram post, the Abuja-based influencer said she does not belong to that school of thought. According to her, men should continue doing what they are capable of doing, and should even help carry part of what women do.
“For those women saying: what a man can do, a woman can do it better... I’m not a part of that philosophy at all,” she said.
“In fact, what a man can do, a man should continue doing it. If the man can even take a part of what the woman can do, he should carry. I’m not a part of that philosophy.”
The post has divided opinions online. Some users praised her for advocating partnership rather than competition between men and women. Others, however, criticised her, arguing that her comments reinforce traditional gender roles and undermine women’s capabilities.
As of the time of filing this report, @iamsimplynneka had not responded to the mixed reactions trailing her post.
