The Abuja, FCT Chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo will today host its 2026 Igbo Day Celebration, a long-awaited cultural gathering, which will feature the Igbo Nmanma Excellence Award and the unveiling of the Ohanaeze Cooperative Society.
The event is scheduled for Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at the Transcorp Hilton Event Arena, Abuja, beginning at 12 noon.
The celebration is expected to bring together Igbo leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs, youths, traditional stakeholders and members of the Igbo community for a day focused on celebrating culture, excellence and contributions to society.
A major highlight of the programme will be the Igbo Nmanma Excellence Award, which is designed to recognise individuals whose achievements and contributions have brought honour to the Igbo community.
The event will also feature the unveiling of the Ohanaeze Cooperative Society, an initiative previously announced by the FCT chapter as part of efforts to promote economic empowerment among Ndigbo in Abuja.
The cooperative is expected to provide a platform for resource mobilisation, accessible credit and investment opportunities in areas including trade, agriculture, real estate and small businesses.
The celebration comes under the broader leadership of Senator John Azuta-Mbata, President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, who has recently called on members of the organisation to prioritise unity, peace and the collective interests of Ndigbo.
The role of the younger generation is also expected to be significant, with the Ohanaeze Ndigbo youth leadership representing an important constituency in efforts to preserve Igbo identity while promoting enterprise, leadership and community development.
The youth wing has continued to position itself as a voice for younger Igbos, including its support for Senator Azuta-Mbata's leadership.
The event is expected to showcase elements of Igbo heritage, including traditional music, dance, attire and other forms of cultural expression.
