A single mother of two, Sandra Okpara, has recovered N1,640,200 she accidentally transferred to an account associated with Pastor Jerry Eze’s Streams of Joy International.
Okpara had raised the alarm on social media after realising that the money, which she said belonged to people she was expected to pay, had been sent to the wrong account.
Seeking assistance to recover the funds, she appealed to the public to help trace the transaction and reach the church.
“This money is not my money. I cannot do offering of 1,640,200. Please help me trace the accounts,” she said in a video shared on social media on Friday.
According to Okpara, she had earlier made a N1,000 offering before initiating another transfer of more than N1.6m to an account with Zenith Bank.
She said she discovered the mistake only after reviewing the transaction receipt.
“My hand just clicked that one. Before God and man, it was erroneous,” she said.
Okpara said her attempts to reverse the transaction through her bank, Zenith Bank, and later Moniepoint, did not initially yield the desired result.
She explained that Moniepoint had lodged a complaint on the transaction but informed her that a court order was required before the funds could be recovered.
“I went to Moniepoint; they lodged the complaint, but they were asking for a court order. I don’t know how to contact them. I went to Pastor Jerry’s online prayer platform,” she said.
Her appeal subsequently gained traction online, drawing the attention of Streams of Joy International, which reportedly contacted her over the mistaken payment.
The development ended with Okpara confirming that the money had been returned to her.
“My money has been refunded by the church. Thank you to NSSPD, and Pastor Jerry Eze,” she said in a video released on Saturday.
