Nigerians on social media have threatened to boycott Afrobeats star Davido’s December concerts in Lagos following his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s decision to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

The backlash emerged after Adeleke was named the Osun coordinator of Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign, a move that has drawn criticism from some supporters who expected the governor to oppose the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Adeleke, who belongs to the Accord Party, declared his support for Tinubu during the inauguration of the president’s campaign council at the State House in Abuja on Wednesday.

The governor reportedly said Tinubu deserved another four years to consolidate his administration’s economic reforms.

The development has triggered reactions from some social media users, with several questioning the political implications of Adeleke’s decision for members of his family, particularly Davido, who has previously expressed strong views about the APC in Osun State.

The controversy coincided with Davido’s announcement of a three-night concert residency scheduled to hold at the National Theatre in Lagos from December 17 to 19.

The singer disclosed the dates in a post on X on Thursday, describing the event, tagged Oriadè: The Residency, as a homecoming celebration and a commemoration of his 15 years in the music industry.

According to Davido, the performances will feature songs from his latest album, Oriadè, alongside selections from his previous projects.

However, the announcement attracted criticism from some social media users who linked the concerts to the political controversy surrounding his uncle.

Some threatened not to purchase tickets for the shows, while others sarcastically suggested that the singer should depend on members of his family and the APC to fill the venue.

The controversy has also brought renewed attention to Davido’s previous comments about the APC during the Osun governorship election.

In an earlier post on X, the singer described APC supporters in the state as “enemies of progress”.

Some social media users cited the remark to question the apparent contrast between Davido’s earlier position on the party and his uncle’s decision to support Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

Others accused the singer of hypocrisy, arguing that he had remained silent despite Adeleke’s public mobilisation of support for the president.

The criticism extended to the Adeleke family, with some users claiming that the governor’s political realignment disregarded the sacrifices made by supporters who worked for his electoral victory.

They recalled incidents of violence, hardship and losses allegedly suffered by some residents during the struggle to secure Adeleke’s victory, arguing that his endorsement of Tinubu undermined those efforts.

However, other social media users defended Davido, insisting that the singer should not be held responsible for his uncle’s political decisions.

They argued that the governor was entitled to make his own political choices and that the singer should not face a boycott over a decision he did not personally make.

As of press time, Davido had yet to publicly respond to the threats to boycott his December concerts.
