The Nollywood Cultural Heritage Festival is set to celebrate Nigeria’s rich cultural diversity through music, dance, folklore and traditional storytelling at an event tagged “Egwu Onwa (Moonlight Night)” in Abuja.
The festival, scheduled for Thursday, October 22, 2026, will showcase the country’s diverse cultural traditions and heritage through artistic performances and other cultural expressions that reflect Nigeria’s identity, history and shared values.
The President of the Nollywood Cultural Heritage Festival, Chief Agility Onwurah, is associated with the festival’s drive to promote Nigerian culture and preserve the country’s rich artistic and traditional heritage.
With the slogan, “Experience Our Heritage, Our Culture, Our Stories,” the festival seeks to provide a platform for celebrating indigenous traditions, encouraging cultural appreciation and promoting unity among Nigerians.
The choice of Egwu Onwa, which evokes the traditional moonlight gathering, highlights the historical role of communal storytelling, music, dance and folklore in preserving indigenous knowledge and transmitting cultural values from one generation to another.
Traditionally, moonlight gatherings served as avenues for entertainment, moral instruction and community bonding, allowing elders to pass down stories, customs, beliefs and life lessons to younger generations.
The festival’s programme is expected to feature cultural performances and activities highlighting Nigeria’s artistic heritage and the role of entertainment in preserving indigenous traditions and strengthening national identity.
Established in 2012, the Nollywood Cultural Heritage Festival has built its identity around the intersection of Nigerian cinema, culture and heritage, using creative expression to celebrate the country’s cultural wealth.
The forthcoming event is expected to attract culture enthusiasts, performers and members of the public for an evening dedicated to showcasing Nigeria’s cultural diversity and the enduring relevance of its traditions.
The festival also highlights the potential of cultural events to strengthen social bonds, promote mutual understanding and create platforms for celebrating Nigeria’s diverse ethnic and cultural identities.
With music, dance, heritage and unity as its central pillars, Egwu Onwa is expected to offer participants an opportunity to reconnect with traditional forms of entertainment while appreciating the richness of Nigerian culture.
