Ohaneze: Twist as Ibe appoints Obiozor Elders'Council Chairman

The factional President of the Igbo apex social cultural organization, Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Chidi Ibe, Monday, announced Prof. George Obiozor, also a factional President of the body, Chairman Ohaneze Elders' Council, dashing any hope of quick resolution of the leadership crisis rocking the organization.

Ibe and Obiozor were elected President of the pan Igbo group at parallel elections held in Enugu and Imo States, respectively.

Announcing the appointment, Ibe, said the idea was to include shades of interests and opinions in the task of pursuing and achieving the Igbo interest and agenda.

He noted that his emergence as the President General has saved the organization from being hijacked by politicians who are scheming to use the platform to pursue personal and political interests other than the collective interest of the Igbo.

Ibe who was a former Commissioner in Imo State, promised to reinvent the group, said that all Igbo groups will be carried along in the task of returning the Igbo to its pride of place in the Nigerian polity.

According to him, "in the spirit of brotherhood and oneness, I have appointed my revered elder brother and illustrious Igbo son, Prof. George Obiozor as the Chairman of Ohaneze Elders'Council. This I believe will help in restoring our fast fading culture and tradition as a people.

"We are also extending hands of fellowship to all aggrieved Igbo sons to join us in the task ahead. We are poised to get it right going forward. Ohaneze Ndigbo will no longer be seen as sitting on the fence over issues concerning the Igbo interest".

On the election of Obiozor as President General of Ohaneze in Owerri, the Imo State capital,.Ibeh, dismissed the election as a "political exercise" that is not known to Ohaneze Ndigbo.

He said, "we are aware of the charade that took place in Owerri. What I will tell you is that we are not distracted by the antics of the politicians. The reason they are struggling to have control of Ohaneze Ndigbo is obvious, to negotiate for their personal interests in 2023". Ohaneze Ndigbo must be better.
