Late Saturday night, two female students from Joseph Sarwuan University of Agriculture in Makurdi, Benue State, were abducted by gunmen.

The incident took place around 11 pm along North Bank/Uniagric Road.

Catherine Anene, the spokesperson for the state command, confirmed the kidnapping to journalists on Wednesday. She detailed that the assailants had blocked the road, ambushed the students, and escaped before security forces could intervene.

In response to the incident, both the families of the victims and the university administration have been in contact with the police. Anene assured that an investigation is currently underway to locate and rescue the kidnapped students.

This abduction comes on the heels of another police operation in Benue State. Earlier, local police officers successfully neutralized three suspected kidnappers and rescued two hostages.

The suspects had abducted two individuals from Ukum Local Government Area and demanded a ransom of N23 million. The police, as part of Operation Zenda, raided the kidnappers’ hideout on Wednesday morning, leading to the rescue of the victims.

The community remains on high alert as the authorities continue their efforts to ensure the safe return of the kidnapped students and to combat the rising threat of kidnapping in the area.
