Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has visited victims of the recent mosque arson in Kano.
Obi arrived in Kano on Sunday and headed directly from Malam Aminu Kano International Airport to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, where several victims are being treated.
Expressing his dismay, Obi remarked, “This is a horrific and condemnable act. It’s tragic that such an event can occur in our nation today. It is incomprehensible why a young boy would commit such a heinous act against his own family and community.”
He continued, “We stand in solidarity condemning this act. My visit here is to show support and solidarity for the victims and to commend the hospital management for their efforts. This senseless act of violence must be condemned.”
Obi extended his condolences to the government and people of Kano, urging all Nigerians to unite against such senseless violence.
Previously, it was reported that a family dispute over inheritance led to this tragic event in Larabar-Albasawa, a quiet community on the outskirts of Gezawa, Kano State.
The arsonist, Shafiu Abubakar, allegedly set the mosque on fire during the early morning Subh prayer around 5:30 a.m., trapping about 40 worshippers inside after spraying the area with petroleum and locking the door.
