A group of bandits linked to notorious warlord Bello Turji has kidnapped a man who, in a widely circulated video, identified himself as the son of Ishyaka Rabiu.
In the footage, the victim tearfully appeals to his family to pay a ransom for his freedom.
The video, which spread rapidly across social media, shows the hostage visibly distressed as he pleads with his relatives to comply with the captors’ demands.
Security officials confirmed to counter-insurgency expert Zagozola Makama that the abduction is connected to ongoing criminal activity by remnants of Turji’s faction, which has been severely weakened by continuous military offensives in Zamfara and surrounding areas.
Turji himself is believed to be in hiding after narrowly evading a recent military raid on his strongholds.
According to intelligence reports, Turji and his close associate, Dan Isuhu, barely escaped a large-scale assault by Nigerian forces. Unlike his previous pattern of flaunting his actions online, Turji has remained uncharacteristically silent — a sign of mounting pressure from relentless military efforts to capture or eliminate him.
Several of Turji’s camps in Shinkafi and nearby forested areas have been destroyed, while many of his fighters have been apprehended. Military sources emphasize that operations will persist until the insurgent group is completely dismantled.
