On Monday, June 30, 2025, an individual gained unauthorised access to the Calabar New Secretariat branch of First City Monument Bank (FCMB) by concealing himself in a restroom and remaining within the premises after business hours.

The individual was apprehended the following morning upon resumption of operations. Law enforcement authorities were immediately notified, and an investigation is currently underway.

The following clarifications are provided in relation to the incident:

● No system compromise occurred, and no customer funds or data were affected.

● Reports suggesting system hacking or prompts such as “restarting, click OK to accept” are inaccurate.

● The breach was physical in nature and limited strictly to the affected branch.

System and data protection measures in the branch and across the bank remained fully intact throughout the event, and core banking operations were not impacted.

It is essential to note that First City Monument Bank does not condone the use of force and is fully cooperating with relevant authorities to ensure the matter is addressed within the framework of the law.

The safety of customers, employees, and critical infrastructure remains a top operational priority for the bank.
