A heavy exchange of gunfire between bandits and military personnel has left nine terrorists dead at Bakaji and Unguwar Garma in Gwauron Dutse area of Shanono Local Government of Kano State.
One member of a vigilance group was killed and another wounded by the bandits.
The Chairman of the Shanono/Bagwai Community Security Forum, Alhaji Yahya Bagobiri, disclosed this to journalists in Kano on Sunday.
Bagobiri said the bandits raided the area at about 12 p.m. with heavy arms and ammunition, but were engaged by the military, resulting in a gun duel for several hours.
Unable to withstand the soldiers’ superior fire power,he said, the hoodlums fled the area, but abducted six persons and carted away about 40 cows.
Thereafter, the chairman said,the troops who neutralised the bandits also seized their motorcycles,but that some of the criminals sneaked back between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. and opened fire on the soldiers, which was repelled.
“Because they came in hundreds they still took away six persons and 40 Cows, but thanks to the military who returned heavy fire killing nine of them and making them to abandon their motorcycles.
“Let me, honestly commend the military who protect the area by stopping the bandits from causing any serious havoc,” Bagobiri added.
