The United States President Donald Trump on Thursday said American forces had carried out what he described as “powerful and deadly” airstrikes against Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists operating in Northwestern Nigeria, warning that further attacks would follow if the group continued killing Christians.
Trump made the announcement on his Truth Social platform, stating that the strikes were carried out on his direct orders as Commander-in-Chief.
According to him, the operation targeted ISIS fighters accused of brutally attacking Christian communities in the region.
“Tonight, at my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS terrorist scum in Northwest Nigeria,” Trump wrote, alleging that the militants had been “viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians” at unprecedented levels.
PLATIUMPOST reports that the US president said he had previously warned the terrorists to halt the killings, stressing that the strikes were a response to their continued violence. He added that the US Department of War executed “numerous perfect strikes,” vowing that under his leadership, the United States would not allow radical Islamic terrorism to prosper.
Trump also warned that more attacks would follow if the killings continued, adding a message of praise for the US military.
In a related post on X (formerly Twitter), US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said he was “grateful for Nigerian government support and cooperation,” suggesting coordination with Nigerian authorities during the operation.
“The President was clear last month: the killing of innocent Christians in Nigeria (and elsewhere) must end,” Hegseth wrote, adding that US forces were ready to act and that ISIS “found out tonight — on Christmas.”
