Men of the Federal Fire Service (FFS) have brought under control a fire incident involving a fuel tanker that caught fire while off-loading diesel at Rain Oil Filling Station, Tumfure, Gombe State.
According to a statement signed on Saturday by the National Public Relations Officer of the FFS, DCF P.O. Abraham, firefighters were immediately deployed to the scene following the receipt of a distress call.
“Through prompt and professional intervention, the inferno was effectively brought under control, preventing the tanker from being completely engulfed and averting what could have resulted in a major disaster.
“The affected location is a highly sensitive commercial environment, being in close proximity to multiple filling stations, business hubs and the NNPC Depot. The swift response of the Service prevented a potential chain reaction and safeguarded properties estimated at over Five Hundred Million Naira (₦500,000,000),” the statement said.
The statement noted that no loss of life was recorded in the incident and reiterated the FFS’s unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property.
It also urged operators of petroleum facilities to strictly adhere to safety standards, particularly during product discharge operations.
“The Service also appreciates the officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Tumfure Division, and the Department of State Services (DSS) for providing security cover that enabled firefighters to effectively discharge their duties,” it added.
