The Commander General of the Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS), Dr Joshua Osatimehin, has cautioned Nigerians against circulating online reports claiming that the Service is recruiting 30,000 personnel nationwide.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Dr Joshua Osatimehin dismissed the reports as false and misleading.

He explained that the publication was the work of fraudsters seeking to exploit the growing reputation and achievements of the NFSS to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

According to him, the Nigeria Forest Security Service is not conducting any recruitment exercise and does not operate any recruitment portal at the moment.

“We at the National Headquarters of NFSS here do not have official portal yet but you’ll recall that President Bola Tinubu has given approval for the establishment of NFSS but we’re at the verge of harmonization and it’s after the harmonization has been done that through the office of the National Security Adviser, NSA, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment that we’re going to be directed on the next line of action but we in NFSS are not doing any recruitment hence the need for the general public to disregard the fake news” he stressed.

The NFSS Commander General also expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu, the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, as well as the Military, DSS, Police, NSCDC, Customs, Immigration and NDLEA for their continued support to the Service.

Dr Joshua Osatimehin further commended the Senate and House of Representatives for passing the NFSS Bill, noting that the development demonstrated the lawmakers’ resolve to address crimes within the country’s forest areas.

He consequently appealed to President Bola Tinubu to assent to the NFSS Bill, saying it would further strengthen the President’s renewed hope agenda, particularly in the area of national security.

Reaffirming the Service’s resolve, the Commander General stated that NFSS remains committed to complementing the efforts of conventional security agencies in tackling banditry, kidnapping, Boko Haram, terrorism and other criminal activities, especially in forested regions across the country.
