Barely days after Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi lost his father in a road accident following Nigeria’s third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, tragedy has again struck the national team camp as winger Samuel Chukwueze has lost his mother.

The death was confirmed on Thursday by the Super Eagles player’s brother, David Chukwueze, in a series of emotional posts shared on his Instagram story.

“Can’t even post say RIP mom,” he wrote.
“My forever love just left me without saying goodbye.
“You didn’t even carry your grandchild.”

The family did not disclose the cause of death. However, sources close to the Chukwueze family revealed that the footballer’s mother had been ill for some time.

Chukwueze, who is currently on loan from AC Milan to Fulham, reportedly travelled frequently between England and Italy during the first half of the season while his mother was receiving treatment.

The 26-year-old featured for Nigeria at the recently concluded 2025 AFCON, where he came under criticism after missing a penalty in the Super Eagles’ semi-final defeat to hosts Morocco.

He has since bounced back from the disappointment, scoring for Fulham in his first match after the tournament.

Chukwueze has recorded three goals and three assists for the Premier League side so far this season.
