Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has returned to Port Harcourt after travelling abroad, although details of the destination and purpose of the trip were not made public.

On Sunday, the governor attended a church service at St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church in Port Harcourt to commemorate the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

He was accompanied by his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu, alongside other top officials of the state government.

The church service marked the first public appearance of both Fubara and his deputy since the Rivers State House of Assembly commenced fresh impeachment proceedings against the governor last Thursday.

This development represents the third attempt to remove Fubara from office in under three years.

The Armed Forces Remembrance Day service is held annually to honour Nigerian servicemen and women who lost their lives in defence of the country’s unity and sovereignty. The observance also includes prayers for the repose of fallen heroes and for the safety of personnel still serving in the armed forces.

Amid the renewed political tension, the governor and his administration have not issued any response to the allegations of gross misconduct raised against them by the state House of Assembly.

It was earlier reported  that Fubara travelled out of the country on Thursday aboard a private jet, with plans to meet President Bola Tinubu in France, as the impeachment process unfolded in the state.
