Algeria’s Head Coach, Vladimir Petković, has praised Nigeria after the Super Eagles secured a 2-0 win in their AFCON quarter-final encounter.
Petković acknowledged that the Algerian side deservedly lost the match, admitting they found it difficult to gain control from the early stages of the game.
He said Nigeria dominated crucial phases of the contest.
“Nigeria was better than us and prevented us from playing the way we wanted,” he said.
The Algerian coach explained that his team fell short in key areas needed to compete at that level.
“They showed superior individual quality and physical strength,” Petković said.
He added that although Algeria tried to respond after the break, they struggled to create meaningful attacking opportunities.
“We tried to improve, but we couldn’t reach the level we wanted going forward,” he said.
Petković described the exit as painful for his players, noting their disappointment despite their overall performance at the tournament.
“The players are devastated, but they performed well throughout the tournament,” he said.
He encouraged his squad to remain optimistic despite the setback.
“This competition is over and we must now look ahead with our heads held high,’ he said.
