The President of the Association of Community Health Practitioners of Nigeria (ACHPN), Comrade Kabir Yahaya Ahmed, has congratulated Nigerians, particularly members of the Association, on witnessing the year 2026.

In his New Year message, Comrade Kabir Ahmed described the outgoing year as one of the most challenging periods for the country and its citizens.

He expressed optimism that with God on the side of Nigeria and Nigerians, 2026 would be better than previous years in the nation’s history.

The ACHPN President stressed the need for all Nigerians, especially the political class, to demonstrate commitment towards realizing the dreams of the nation’s founding fathers in 2026, with a view to repositioning the country for greatness.

He also used the occasion to call for a comprehensive overhaul of the nation’s Primary Healthcare System in 2026 in order to enhance the wellbeing of Nigerians across the country.

Comrade Kabir Ahmed further emphasized the need for increased recruitment of community health practitioners this year to address the workforce shortfall in primary healthcare centres nationwide.

Expressing concern over the welfare of Community Health Practitioners, particularly those deployed to rural areas, he called for measures that would improve their remuneration and overall welfare in 2026, noting that this would boost productivity and strengthen effective healthcare delivery.

He advocated the upgrade of Primary Healthcare Centres through the provision of basic amenities such as electricity, consumables and water supply, alongside other essential facilities required for primary healthcare services.

Identifying healthcare delivery as critical to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 4), the National President of ACHPN urged governments at all levels to increase budgetary allocations to the health sector to tackle child and maternal mortality in the country.

Comrade Kabir Yahaya Ahmed also appealed to some State Commissioners who are denying Community Health Practitioners the opportunity to practice in state-owned facilities to reconsider their stance, describing such actions as contrary to national efforts towards achieving Universal Health Coverage.

He assured that the Association would continue to complement government efforts aimed at repositioning the nation’s primary healthcare sector.

While wishing Nigerians, especially members of the Association, a Happy and Prosperous New Year, Comrade Kabir Ahmed prayed for God’s blessings upon all citizens in their endeavours and for the grace to witness more years in good health and fulfilled desires.
