Veteran Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, has called for a new breed of selfless leadership in Nigeria, insisting that meaningful national progress will remain elusive until leaders are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for the country.

Speaking during an interview on Rubbin’ Minds on Channels Television, the 48-year-old actress said Nigeria’s persistent problems stem from poor leadership rather than the actions of its citizens.

Omotola, whose career spans over three decades, stressed that the nation needs leaders who place the national interest above personal safety, comfort, or material gain. According to her, true transformation can only begin when leaders are prepared to fully commit themselves to the country’s survival and future.

“Until we find leaders who are ready to die for Nigeria, we haven’t truly started,” she said. “The moment you see a leader willing to put his life on the line for the nation, that is when real change begins.”

She also cautioned against the rise of tribal politics ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing it as divisive, destructive, and unnecessary.
