Suspected militants from Boko Haram launched an attack on a military outpost at Ajilari, located on the outskirts of Maiduguri in Borno State.

Reports indicate that the assault occurred at about 12:30 a.m., as the insurgents infiltrated the area. At the same time, another attack was reportedly underway in Baga, where terrorists engaged troops stationed at the military base there.

Security sources said a joint response team made up of the military, police, Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and the Nigerian Air Force quickly mobilized to repel the attackers, forcing them to retreat.

The spokesperson of the Borno State Police Command, Nahum Kenneth Daso, confirmed the incident, noting that security operatives had the situation under control. He said suspected terrorists attacked Ajilari Cross and promised to provide further details later.

Following the attack, residents who had gone out for night prayers gathered in groups discussing the situation while helicopters hovered overhead. One resident of Gomari, Bashir Yusuf, said the sound of gunfire and explosions caused panic among people in the area, although calm was later restored.

The latest assault comes amid a renewed wave of attacks targeting military positions in the region. Recently, Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, convened an emergency meeting with the service chiefs and later briefed Bola Tinubu along with other top security officials.

According to Musa, the meeting ended with an agreement to adjust military strategy, while the President approved the acquisition of additional equipment to strengthen the fight against insurgency.
