The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has circulated a photograph of a suspected suicide bomber identified as “Abu Hafsah al-Ansari,” claiming he was responsible for an attack on a temporary camp of the Nigerian Army’s 21 Special Armoured Brigade in Sambisa Forest, Borno State.

According to a report shared on X handle of eons intelligence on Thursday, the group said the explosion was directed at the brigade’s forward operating position during recent military activities in the area. ISWAP also claimed that the assault left about 30 soldiers either killed or wounded.

The incident reportedly took place over the weekend as troops from the 21 Special Armoured Brigade were carrying out clearance operations in sections of Sambisa Forest aimed at dislodging insurgents and destroying their hideouts.

While conducting the operation, the troops were said to have come under attack from suspected ISWAP fighters who ambushed them in the dense forest.
