BREAKING : Ex-Tinubu minister, Tuggar, loses Bauchi APC governorship primary election


The immediate past minister of Foreign Affairs in President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government, Yusuf Tuggar, has failed to secure the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State ahead of the 2027 general election.


PlatinumPost reports that Tuggar had recently resigned his ministerial position to contest for the Bauchi governorship seat under the platform of APC.


The party, after its primary election held on Friday, announced former governor of Bauchi State, Barr. Mohammed Abubakar, SAN, as the winner of the exercise.


Chairman of the APC Governorship and House of Assembly Primaries Committee for Bauchi State, Assistant Inspector General of Police, John Bassey Abang (retired), announced the results early Saturday morning, stating that the governorship primary was conducted on Friday, May 22.


According to him, Abubakar secured a total of 57,517 votes to defeat six other aspirants who participated in the exercise.


He said the immediate-past Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, scored 26,001 votes, while Nura Manu Soro polled 13,638 votes.


Other contestants included Bala Maijama’a A. Wunti, who secured 13,648 votes, and Kabir Baba Ma’aji, who polled 8,157 votes.


Also in the race were Baba Abubakar Suleiman with 7,688 votes, and Yakubu Yakubu Abdullahi, who scored 7,181 votes.


Declaring the winner, AIG Abang (rtd) stated that M.A. Abubakar, having secured the highest number of votes cast, was duly returned as the winner of the APC governorship primary election in Bauchi State.
