Five Islamic clerics have reportedly been kidnapped in Zamfara State after attending a special prayer organised for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday, September 12, 2026, shortly after the clerics participated in the prayer gathering allegedly held at the residence of a serving Senator and influential All Progressive s Congress (APC) leader in the state.

About 1,000 Islamic scholars were said to have attended the gathering, which was convened to seek divine support for Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The abducted clerics were identified as Imam Yahuza, the First Jumma’at Imam in Dogon Madacci; Magawata Abdullahi, the Second Jumma’at Imam in Dogon Madacci; Malam Shehu Dakko; Imam Bala Fagon; and Na’ibi Tasi’u of Tungar Nagudai.

Sources said the victims had travelled from communities in Bakura and Talata Mafara Local Government Areas to attend the event.

The reported abduction has heightened concerns over the worsening security situation in Zamfara, particularly because the incident allegedly occurred in connection with a gathering at the residence of Yari, who is not only a former governor and serving senator but also Director-General of Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign.

As of the time of filing the report, the identities of the alleged abductors and the whereabouts of the five clerics remained unknown.

Security agencies had yet to issue an official statement on the reported incident.

Efforts to obtain comments from the Zamfara State Police Command were also unsuccessful.
