Gov Yusuf mourns Bamanga Tukur, condoles Adamawa

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has expressed his condolences to the Government and people of Adamawa State following the death of former Gongola State Governor and ex-National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Muhammad Tukur.

Tukur, who was also a former Federal Minister of Industries and former General Manager of the Nigerian Ports Authority, died at the age of 90.

Yusuf, in a condolence message issued on Saturday by Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, described the death of the Tafidan Adamawa as a major loss to the state, Nigeria and the northern region.

The governor said Tukur’s life was characterised by public service, business enterprise, integrity and dedication to national development.

According to Yusuf, the late elder statesman built a distinguished career across public administration, governance, politics, business and African economic development, leaving behind an enduring record of leadership.

He noted that Tukur occupied several strategic positions during his lifetime, including General Manager of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Governor of the old Gongola State, Federal Minister of Industries and National Chairman of the PDP.

Yusuf also highlighted the deceased’s contributions to the private sector and his involvement in major African business organisations, saying his activities reflected a commitment to entrepreneurship, economic expansion, intra-African commerce and sustainable development.

The governor further acknowledged Tukur’s contribution to Nigeria’s democratic process, particularly his time as PDP national chairman, which he said formed part of the deceased’s broader contribution to political development and national cohesion.

“Alhaji Bamanga Tukur was a statesman of exceptional experience, wisdom and dignity. He belonged to a generation of leaders who devoted their lives to the service of the nation and the advancement of our people.

“His contributions to Nigeria’s political and economic development will continue to be remembered, while his commitment to the unity, progress and prosperity of the country remains worthy of emulation,” Governor Yusuf said.

The Kano governor, on behalf of the state government and its people, extended his condolences to Tukur’s family, the Adamawa State Government and people, as well as members of the political, business and public service communities across the country.

He prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive the deceased’s shortcomings, grant him Aljannah Firdaus and give his family, relatives, associates and other mourners the strength to cope with the loss.
