Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has congratulated Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo on his appointment as Chancellor of the Hausa Community in Europe.
Gwarzo’s appointment was announced by the Emir of the Hausa Community in Europe, Alhaji Surajo Jankado, during the 2026 International Hausa Day celebration held in Paris, France.
The traditional ruler said the appointment was in recognition of Gwarzo’s contributions to the promotion of Hausa language and culture, as well as his efforts towards improving the welfare of Hausa communities across Europe.
The Emir described the development as an important step towards deepening unity, cooperation and development among Hausa people living in Europe.
In his acceptance speech, Gwarzo thanked the leadership of the Hausa Community for considering him suitable for the position and pledged to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to advance the Hausa language, culture, identity and unity of Hausa people across Europe.
He said the new responsibility would create an avenue for him to support efforts aimed at preserving Hausa heritage and keeping younger generations connected to their language, culture and values.
The new Chancellor also urged Hausa communities across European countries to strengthen cooperation, noting that unity, education and cultural preservation remained vital to sustaining their heritage.
The International Hausa Day event attracted members of the Hausa community, traditional rulers, academics, cultural advocates and other stakeholders who gathered to celebrate the language, culture and heritage of the Hausa people.
Represented by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf described Gwarzo’s appointment as well deserved, citing his contributions to community service in Europe and Nigeria.
“ Prof. Gwarzo deserves such a recognition at International stage due to unwavering support in promoting Hausa language and culture over the years,” he said.
Yusuf also congratulated Gwarzo, the Minister of Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmed; Nigeria’s Permanent Representative at UNESCO, Dr Hajjo Sani; and Alaja Mufeedah Folashade Bola Tunubu (Iyaloja), who were all turbaned during the 2026 International Hausa Day celebration in Paris.
